Black Diamond Half Marathon
Begin by exiting the transition out to the parking lot and directly south to 300th Ave SE (0.1 mi).
Run along the south edge of the park within the coned lane turning left into the bike lane where 300th Ave meets the Veazie-Cumberland Rd (VCR) and proceed to the main park entrance where the County Sheriff will stop traffic as you transition to the east side of the VCR (0.35 mi).
Now run along the east bike lane of the VCR for one mile and turn left onto SE 384th St remaining on the left or north side of the road (1.35 mi).
Continue eastbound for 0.35 miles to the aid station just prior to the RR Tracks, then another 0.65 miles to the TA Point #1 at the end of 384th St (2.35 mi).
Make the turn-around and return, on the south side of the road, all the way back to the VCR where you will turn left (south) once again into the bike lane of the VCR (3.35 mi).
Run south for 0.45 miles and turn right onto 292nd Ave SE where you will encounter aid station #2 (3.8 mi). 292nd Ave is a very quiet road with several turns. You may want to cross over to the side providing the best site distance as opposed to traditionally running against traffic at all times. Continue on 292nd Ave for approximately one mile and turn left onto SE 408th St (4.85 mi).
Just past the intersection there is another aid station on the opposite side of the road which you will pass again on your way back. Continue eastbound for approximately 0.85 miles to TA Point #2 at the base of the hill approximately 5.7 miles into the run), then return back to 292nd Ave NE on the south side of the road again opposing traffic (6.55 mi).
Again you will hit aid station #3 just prior to the intersection before turning right for a very short out and back (0.15 mi) on 292nd Ave. TA Point #3 is at mile 6.7.
Cross over to the west side of 292nd Ave and run north past SE 408th St back to the intersection of the VCR and aid station #2 (8.0 miles).
We will now retrace our steps back to 384th St and turn right (east – 8.4 miles); back to TA Point #1 at the east end of 384th St (9.4 mi); now back to the VCR after passing aid station #1 (10.4 mi); turn right onto the VCR back to the main park entrance (11.4 mi); then retrace your steps back into the park via SE 300th Ave (11.75 mi).
Finish the 1/2 marathon with a single loop on the wide unpaved nature trail clockwise around the lake.
Flat to gentle rolling hills, this looped course is on quiet county roads, with a finish on a wide unpaved nature trail that circles the lake. Do expect to see light vehicle traffic (local residents). The entire course outside of Nolte State Park is on nicely paved roads leaving only approximately 1.5 miles on nature trails within the park only.
