We love it when people surface around our events that become great friends and catalysts to be part of something bigger and deeper.
Rachel Elizalde-Powell, a triathlete, runner, and all around ray of sunshine showed up at our races last year and told us about a team she is deeply involved with: The Warrior Tri Team, which helps the Special Operations Warrior Foundation (SOWF).
SOWF's global mission is to provide a college education to every child who has lost a parent while serving in Special Operations during an operational or training mission.
The Warrior Tri Team is based here in our area and was started in 2010 when friends of 4 fallen Special Forces decided to race and raise money for the children of those soldiers. And raise money they certainly have - $209,000 so far.
When you or your family buy food or beer at the Black Diamond Tri, every dollar will go to the Warrior Tri Team's efforts to provide scholarships. So come hungry, thirsty, and generously! We will toast our fallen heroes and the determination and resilience of their children. (Athletes will enjoy a meal and one beer for free!)
Keep an eye open for the Warrior Triathletes on the course September 10th - there are a long list of them coming to race individually and in relays while raising money for their very important cause.
